In the heart of the city on Russell Street, this beloved boutique has kept Kolkata’s love for tradition alive for over 50 years. It's a destination for exquisite sarees and ethnic wear for both women and men.
Ananda opened on 15 August 1974 to give Bengal's handloom saris new life, working with weavers from Phulia and Dhaniakhali. Its block- and screen-printed silks, with paisleys, scrolls, polka dots and the Ananda Doll, became its signature. Today the shop in Queens Mansion also carries ikats, Benarasis and Kanjivarams, men's kurtas and dhotis, and Ms Ananda, a ready-to-wear line launched in 2025.
