Ananda Publishers was founded in 1957 by Ashok Kumar Sarkar of the ABP group, the company behind Anandabazar Patrika and Desh. It publishes mainly in Bengali: fiction, poetry and serious non-fiction.
Most Feluda stories first ran in the Puja issues of Desh or Sandesh and then came out as Ananda books, usually with Satyajit Ray's own covers and drawings; his Professor Shonku collections followed the same path from 1970. Its list also holds Sunil Gangopadhyay's Sei Samay and the Kakababu books, much of Shakti Chattopadhyay's poetry, Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay's Manabjamin and Samaresh Majumdar's Kalbela. The ABP group has given the Ananda Puraskar for Bengali writing since 1958.
The house works from Beniatola Lane in the College Street area of Kolkata and brings out more than a hundred new titles a year.
