Literary quarterly
Anil Acharya's literary quarterly, founded in Kolkata in 1966, and the book imprint that grew from it.
Anustup is a Bengali literary quarterly founded in Kolkata in 1966 by Anil Acharya, a scholar and essayist who taught English at Serampore College. It is one of the long-surviving magazines of Bengal's little-magazine movement, known for large special issues, one of them for Jibanananda Das's birth centenary.
Since the late 1970s its imprint, Anustup Prakashani, has published books in the same spirit: Debiprasad Chattopadhyaya on Indian materialism, poems and rhymes by Sankha Ghosh, Birendra Chattopadhyay's poetry, the selected writings of Samar Sen, Hemanga Biswas's reminiscences, Surama Ghatak's book on Ritwik Ghatak, and Sumanta Banerjee on the popular culture of nineteenth-century Calcutta.
Acharya also founded Harvest, an English periodical of Bengali short stories in translation.
