A College Street publisher of Mahasweta Devi and Atin Bandyopadhyay, with books on record since 1959.
Karuna Prakashani is a Bengali publisher in Kolkata's College Street book district, with its office on Tamer Lane. Its books go back at least to 1959, when it published Mahasweta Devi's early novels Timir Lagan and Etotuku Asha.
It went on to publish many of Mahasweta Devi's books: Hajar Churashir Ma in 1974, Aranyer Adhikar, which won her the Sahitya Akademi award, in 1977, Chotti Munda O Tar Tir, and the story collections Agnigarbha and Nairite Megh. Atin Bandyopadhyay's partition novel Nilkantha Pakhir Khonje was first published here in April 1971. The list also holds Debabrata Biswas's memoir Bratyajaner Ruddhasangit, poems and translations by Shakti Chattopadhyay, Ishanchandra Ghosh's Bengali Jataka and books on Rabindrasangeet.
The house is still publishing.
