M. C. Sarkar & Sons

The Kolkata house of Jadunath Sarkar's Mughal histories, Parashuram's stories and the Chalantika dictionary.

About

M. C. Sarkar & Sons' early books give its address as Harrison Road, Calcutta. From 75 Harrison Road it published the first volume of Jadunath Sarkar's History of Aurangzib in 1912, and it went on to publish several more of his books on the Mughals and the Marathas. Later it moved to Bankim Chatterjee Street in the College Street book district.

In Bengali it published Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay's Chander Pahar (1937) and Sukumar Ray's Pagla Dashu (1940), whose cover was the first Satyajit Ray ever drew. It was also Rajshekhar Basu's publisher: his Parashuram story collections, his retellings of the Mahabharata and Ramayana, and the Chalantika dictionary. Sudhirchandra Sarkar of the firm edited the children's monthly Mouchak.

The firm still trades as M. C. Sarkar & Sons Pvt. Ltd.; its Parashuram Galpasamagra came out in 2003.
