A College Street house founded in 1934 that publishes Bibhutibhushan, Tarashankar and Ashapurna Devi.
Mitra & Ghosh was founded on 9 March 1934 by two friends, the novelist Gajendrakumar Mitra and the writer and translator Sumathanath Ghosh. It began at 11 College Square and later moved to its present address in the College Street book quarter.
Its list rests on the major Bengali novelists of the mid-century. It publishes Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay, Tarashankar Bandyopadhyay and Ashapurna Devi, whose trilogy beginning with Pratham Pratishruti (1964) carries its imprint, as well as Gajendrakumar's own Kolkatar Kachhei trilogy. Its collected-works editions include Bibhutibhushan, Tarashankar and Syed Mujtaba Ali. The two founders also started the monthly Kathasahitya, which the house still publishes.
Mitra & Ghosh is still trading on College Street.
