Aroj Ali Matubbar Rachana Samagra
Aroj Ali Matubbar · 1993
Collected writings of the self-taught rationalist
A Shahbag bookshop since 1987 that also publishes collected works, translations and serious non-fiction.
Pathak Samabesh began in 1987 as a small bookshop on the ground floor of Aziz Super Market in Shahbag, Dhaka, when most of the building's shops were still empty. Its proprietor, Shahidul Islam Biju, was the first bookseller there; other booksellers and publishers followed, and in the 1990s the market became a meeting place for writers.
The house publishes as well as sells. Its list leans to collected works and careful editions: Aroj Ali Matubbar's writings, Hason Raja's songs, Lalon, the stories and novels of Shahidul Zahir, Jibanananda Das's letters, Plato in Bengali, and English-language studies of Bangladesh's economy and society.
In 2014 it opened a much larger shop across the road from Aziz Market. It sells online too, and is still publishing.
Its books are published in Dhaka. Ask the desk, and we will tell you what we can find.
Ask for any of these and our Kolkata desk will look for a copy.
