Rupasi Bangla (manuscript edition)
Jibanananda Das · 1984
Pratikshan's first book
A Kolkata press known for Jibanananda Das's manuscripts and for its books on the paintings of the Tagores.
Pratikshan began in Kolkata in 1983, a shared idea of the poet and artist Purnendu Pattrea and Priyabrata Deb. Its first book, in 1984, was a manuscript edition of Jibanananda Das's Rupasi Bangla.
Jibanananda has stayed at the centre of the list. Debesh Roy edited a multi-volume Jibanananda Samagra for it from 1985, and Bhumendra Guha later brought out the poet's essays and literary notes from his manuscripts. Art is the other strand: R. Siva Kumar's volumes on the paintings of Abanindranath (2008), Rabindranath (the four-volume Rabindra Chitravali, 2011) and Gaganendranath (2015). Pratikshan has also published Mrinal Sen on cinema and books on Satyajit Ray.
Its own shop, Pratikshan BoiChaGhar, is on the first floor of 5 Surya Sen Street, by College Square.
