A Dhaka house directed by Mofidul Hoque, known for memoirs and histories of the 1971 Liberation War.
Sahitya Prakash is a Dhaka publishing house directed by Mofidul Hoque, a writer, translator and one of the founding trustees of the Liberation War Museum. Its founding year is not given in the sources we read, but it was already publishing in 1982, when it brought out Fayez Ahmed's memoir Madhyarater Ashwarohi.
The house is best known for first-hand books about 1971: a guerrilla commander's diary, soldiers' and officials' memoirs, the eyewitness collection 1971: Bhayabaha Abhijnata, and Mofidul Hoque's own Bengali translation of Sydney Schanberg's reports. Its list also carries Dwijen Sharma's books on trees and on Darwin, Mahmudul Haque's fiction, and English-language books on the war.
It is still active, and its English list kept growing through the 2010s.
Its books are published in Dhaka. Ask the desk, and we will tell you what we can find.
Ask for any of these and our Kolkata desk will look for a copy.
