সুকুমার রায়ের বিখ্যাত 'খিচুড়ি' কবিতার একটি কাল্পনিক ও হাস্যরসাত্মক চরিত্র হলো 'হাঁসজারু'। হাঁস ও সজারুর মতো দুটি সম্পূর্ণ আলাদা প্রাণীকে জুড়ে দিয়ে অবাস্তব এক অদ্ভুত প্রাণী তৈরি করা হয়েছে। ছড়ার শুরুতেই কবি মজার ছলে বলেছেন— "হাঁস ছিল, সজারু, (ব্যাকরণ মানি না) / হয়ে গেল 'হাঁসজারু' কেমনে তা জানি না।" অর্থাৎ এখানে প্রকৃতির নিয়ম বা ব্যাকরণের কোনো বালাই নেই। সুকুমার রায়ের ননসেন্স সাহিত্য ধারার অন্যতম শ্রেষ্ঠ নিদর্শন এটি, যা শিশুদের মনে আনন্দ ও হাসির খোরাক জোগায়।
