সুকুমার রায়ের ‘আবোল তাবোল’ কাব্যগ্রন্থের একটি অত্যন্ত জনপ্রিয় এবং কালজয়ী ননসেন্স কবিতা হলো ‘ট্যাঁশ গরু’। আপাতদৃষ্টিতে এটি একটি কাল্পনিক ও উদ্ভট জীবের বিবরণ মনে হলেও, এর গভীরে রয়েছে একটি তীব্র সামাজিক ও রাজনৈতিক ব্যঙ্গ। কবিতার শুরুতে কবি জানিয়েছেন যে ‘ট্যাঁশ গরু’ আসলে কোনো গরু নয়, এটি একটি পাখি, যা ‘হারুদের আফিসে’ দেখা যায়। এই অদ্ভুত প্রাণীর অবয়ব এবং স্বভাব অত্যন্ত হাস্যকর ও অসঙ্গতিপূর্ণ। তার চোখ দুটি ঢুলু ঢুলু, মাথায় ফিটফাট করে টেরিকাটা কালো চুল, তিনটি বাঁকা শিং এবং একটি প্যাঁচানো লেজ। তার হাড়গোড় নড়বড়ে, একটু ধমক দিলেই সে চমকে পড়ে যায়। সামান্য ছোঁয়া পেলেই সে চিৎকার করে ওঠে। সে সাধারণ গরুর মতো ঘাস-বিচালি খায় না, বরং দেওয়ালে ঠেস দিয়ে খাবি খায়, স্রেফ ওষুধ খায় এবং সাবান দিয়ে ভাত মাখিয়ে খায়। গভীরভাবে পর্যবেক্ষণ করলে দেখা যায়, ‘ট্যাঁশ গরু’ আসলে তৎকালীন ব্রিটিশ শাসিত ভারতের উগ্র অনুকরণপ্রিয় বাঙালি কেরানি সমাজ এবং সাহেব সাজার চেষ্টায় রত ‘বাবু’ সংস্কৃতির এক প্রতীকী রূপ।
