গা ছমছমে। শিরদাঁড়া দিয়ে বয়ে যাওয়া হিমেল স্রোত। এই বইয়ের বারোটি গল্প পড়তে গিয়ে এমন মনে হতে পারে। আসতে পারে শিউরে ওঠার অনুভূতি, যা ঠিক আতঙ্ক নয়। নেহাতই একটি ক্যামেরা, ছবি আঁকার একটি খাতা, এমন গল্প বলতে পারে যা দুলিয়ে দিতে পারে মনের স্বাভাবিক স্থিতি। ভূত আছে কী নেই, সেই তর্ক হাজির করেও তার মীমাংসায় পৌঁছতে দেয় না এসব গল্প। ঘটনার ভেতর দিয়ে ভীতি এসে পড়ে হাড় হিম করে দেয়। কখনও গল্পে লুকিয়ে থাকে সম্পর্কের ভেতরে বেড়ে ওঠা বিদ্বেষ। হতে পারে সে সম্পর্ক বন্ধুতার, হতে পারে প্রেমের, সংসারজীবনের মধ্যে বেঁচে থাকা এক-একটি মানুষের। বস্তি পুড়িয়ে হোটেল তৈরি, স্ত্রীর ওপর স্বামীর অত্যাচার, সম্পত্তির লোভে খুন, ভালোবাসার বদলে প্রতারণার মতো ঘটনাও সঙ্গোপনে ঢুকে পড়ে গল্পের মধ্যে। লেখকের তৈরি করা চরিত্রের মুখোমুখি হতে হয় লেখককে। কোথাও বা এক গল্প বদলে যায় অন্য গল্পে। চরিত্রে অতিপ্রাকৃত এইসব গল্প প্রশ্ন জাগায় অস্তিত্ব নিয়ে। আর সব কিছুর মধ্যে জেগে থাকে ভয়। ভূতের, বর্তমানের, ভবিষ্যতের।
