কাহিনি শুরু হয়েছে ব্যাসদেবের জবানিতে। মহাভারতের ঘটনাক্রম উঠে এসেছে সহজ ন্যারেটিভে। ক্ষমতা দখলের সূত্রে অসুর-দেব থেকে শুরু করে মানুষ পর্যন্ত কীভাবে গড়িয়েছে একের পর এক বিরোধ, ভগবান চতুর্বেদী তা শুনিয়েছেন বিনায়ক গজাননকে। কৌরব আর পাণ্ডবদের যুদ্ধের বীজ অঙ্কুরিত হওয়ার সূত্র ধরে এসেছে কোরাণের কাহিনিও। ফেরেশতা আর জ্বিনদের লড়াই থেকে স্বর্গে প্রবেশ ঘটল ইবলিশের। হয়ে উঠল সে ফেরেশতাদের সর্দার। তারপর জন্ম হল মানুষের। আদমকে সেজদা না করে সদাপ্রভুর শাস্তিতে ইবলিশ পরিণত হল শয়তানে। এরপর আদম আর হাওয়া বিবিও স্বর্গচ্যুত হলেন ঘটনাপ্রবাহে। পৃথিবীতে শুরু হল মানুষের বসতি। শুভবুদ্ধির সঙ্গে শুরু হল শয়তানের প্ররোচনার সংঘাত। আল্লাহর প্রেরিত দূত নবীদের কাহিনি এগিয়ে চলার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে আমরা দেখতে পাই মুসলমান-ইহুদি আর খ্রিস্টানদের বিরোধের ইতিহাস। এই বিরোধ চূড়ান্ত বাঁক নিয়েছে শেষ নবী মুহাম্মদের মৃত্যুর সঙ্গে সঙ্গে। খিলাফতের রাজনীতি শেষ পর্যন্ত জন্ম দিয়েছে আইসিস-এর মতো মানবতাবিরোধী একটি গোষ্ঠীর। মহাকাব্যিক ঢঙে রচিত এই উপন্যাসে লেখক চিরজীবী পৌরাণিক চরিত্রগুলির সাহায্যে তুলে ধরেছেন ক্ষমতার আধুনিকতম পুতুলনাচ।
