For young readers there are adventure and mystery stories — among them books by Sasthipada Chattopadhyay, creator of Pandab Goenda — along with ghost stories and collections of laughs. For adults the list runs from detective fiction and social novels to essays on religion, folk faith and the Baul–Fakir tradition, the women of the Mahabharata, the Upanishads, and lives of Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay and Rabindranath.
