সে এক ভাগ্যবিড়ম্বিত পুরুষ। দরিদ্র পরিবারে জন্ম, স্কুলে শহুরে সহপাঠীদের ঠাট্টার শিকার, যৌবনে অলস, ভবঘুরে জীবন, শিল্পী হতে চাওয়ার ব্যর্থ ইচ্ছা, এমনকি প্রথম বিশ্বযুদ্ধেও দায়িত্ব পড়লো রেজিমেন্টের বার্তাবহ রানারের। অবশ্য এবার ভাগ্য একটু সাথ দিল। একের পর এক দুর্ঘটনা থেকে বেঁচে বার্তা পৌঁছনো, কমান্ডার লেফটেনান্টের জীবন বাঁচানো কিছুটা পরিচিতি দিল। যদিও লাভ বিশেষ হলো না। আত্মসমর্পণ করে ফেললো তার দেশ। দেশের অবস্থা দাঁড়ালো ভয়াবহ। সেই অস্থির সময়ে লোকটা যোগ দিল এমন একটা শ্রমিক দলে, যার সদস্য সংখ্যা তাকে নিয়ে মাত্র ৫৫ জন। এইবার সে কাজে লাগালো তার বাগ্মীতা। যুক্তিপূর্ণ নয়, ইহুদিবিদ্বেষী উত্তেজক বক্তৃতা। দলে লোক বাড়তে লাগলো হু হু করে। এই দল থেকেই তৈরী হলো নাজি পার্টি, আর তার প্রধান হয়ে গেলেন ওই লোকটি- অ্যাডলফ হিটলার। এরপর ১৯২৩ এ মিউনিখের বিয়ার বারে নাজি পার্টির প্রথম রাজদ্রোহ, জেনারেল লুডেনবার্গের একটামাত্র সিদ্ধান্তে তার নাটকীয় পট পরিবর্তন, গ্যেরিং, হিমলার এবং আরেকটু পরে গোয়েবলসের মতো পরিচিত নামগুলির আগমন, আরো অনেক ঘাতপ্রতিঘাতের পরে শুধুমাত্র ইহুদী-বিদ্বেষের আগুনে ভর করে সেই ভবঘুরে, ব্যর্থ মানুষটি হয়ে উঠলেন ফুয়েরার- একইসাথে জার্মানির রাষ্ট্রপতি এবং চ্যান্সেলর, ইতিহাসের অন্যতম নৃশংস খলনায়ক। কিভাবে? সেটা জানতে হলে পড়ে ফেলতে হবে রোহন কুদ্দুসের 'রাজদ্রোহ' বইটি।

Tagore Association works in batik, the old wax-resist way of dyeing cloth. Its stall carries batik-printed sarees in cotton and silk, bedsheets and wrap skirts, each worked by hand, so no two pieces come out quite alike.

Charupath publishes books that cross languages and centuries: Bengali translations of Bharatendu Harishchandra's plays and of the Periplus of the Erythraean Sea, a memoir from a marginalised community of South India, a Pali-to-Hindi Theri Apadan, and writing about Kashi — its temples, ghats and people — including a puja annual and a book of poems by a Varanasi poet.

Bhayli makes handmade jewellery and resin décor, customised to order. Real flowers are set in resin for pendants, necklaces, photo frames and planters — some with Maa Durga at their heart — alongside oxidised necklaces with thread-ball and jhumka tassels, enamel-print earrings and a necklace inspired by Jamini Roy.

Chobi-O-Ghor-ghoradum
Chobi-O-Ghor-Ghoradum makes handmade collectible miniatures drawn from Bengal's stories and folklore — Sukumar Ray's Abol Tabol creatures such as Kumro Potash, Huko Mukho Hangla, Bokocchop and the Tyas Goru, the King of Ghosts from Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne, Netaji, and Tintin — several set in display cases.
