‘রিয়েল এস্টেট শোনে কি কখনও মেঘমল্লার?’ একটুকরো মেঘের মতো এই গান ঘুরতে থাকে শহরের মাথার ওপর। তরুণ ফুটবল কোচ সোমুর চোখে একরাশ স্বপ্ন, অথচ আচমকা এক ঝড় এলোমেলো করে দেয় সব কিছু। জীবনের কাছে সমস্ত চাওয়া-পাওয়ার হিসেব ভুলে উদাসীন হয়ে আছে অর্ণা। একফালি সবুজ মাঠ— তাকে ঘিরেই বিবেকনগর কলোনি। মানুষের ভেতর থেকে আত্মা আর শহরের ভেতর থেকে এই সবুজ কিনে নিতে চায় পুঁজি। রণ-লিও-টুবাই-মিকিরা এই মাঠের ধারে বসে থাকে সারা বিকেল। খেলা শুরুর আগে অন্ধকার করে আসে আকাশ। হুইল চেয়ারে বসে থাকা অর্ণার কাছে যে বৃষ্টি বহুযুগের ওপার থেকে বয়ে আনে চিঠি, সোমুর কাছে সে বৃষ্টিই একরাশ অস্বস্তি। থমকে যাওয়া। রাজনীতির চক্রব্যুহ গিলে খেতে চায় ওদের সবাইকে। অর্ণার জানলা দিয়ে শেষ অবধি কি এসে পড়বে অবেলার রোদ? মেঘের ফাঁকে নীল দেখে কি ফের একবার সোমুর হাত ধরে মাঠে নেমে পড়বে রণ-লিও-টুবাইরা? এই শহরে আলো-ছায়ার নকশার ভেতর ওদের সব্বার মনকেমনের গল্পই বলবে ‘শহরে বৃষ্টি’।

Tagore Association works in batik, the old wax-resist way of dyeing cloth. Its stall carries batik-printed sarees in cotton and silk, bedsheets and wrap skirts, each worked by hand, so no two pieces come out quite alike.

Mahua Publishers keeps a broad Bengali list for readers of every age. For young readers there are adventure and mystery stories — among them books by Sasthipada Chattopadhyay, creator of Pandab Goenda — along with ghost stories and collections of laughs.
