‘কুমড়ো পটাশ’ ও ‘হট্টমূলের গাছ’ হলো বাংলা সাহিত্যের বিখ্যাত শিশুসাহিত্যিক সুকুমার রায়ের কালজয়ী ননসেন্স ছড়া ‘কুমড়ো পটাশ’-এর প্রধান দুটি উপাদান। কবিতাটি কবির বিখ্যাত ‘আবোল তাবোল’ কাব্যের অন্তর্ভুক্ত। নিছক মজার ছড়া মনে হলেও এর গভীর একটি বিষয়বস্তু ও অন্তর্নিহিত অর্থ রয়েছে। কবিতার মূল কেন্দ্রবিন্দু ‘কুমড়ো পটাশ’—যা কুমড়োর মতো গোলগাল এক অদ্ভুত কাল্পনিক প্রাণী। আর ‘হট্টমূলের গাছ’ হলো এমন এক কাল্পনিক গাছ, যার কোনো বাস্তব অস্তিত্ব নেই। পুরো কবিতাজুড়ে এই কুমড়ো পটাশের বিভিন্ন কাল্পনিক মেজাজ (যেমন: তার নাচ, কান্না, বা ডাক) এবং তার ফলে চারপাশের মানুষের অদ্ভুত সব কাণ্ডকারখানার বিবরণ দেওয়া হয়েছে। যেমন, কুমড়ো পটাশ নাচলে মানুষকে চার পা তুলে ‘হট্টমূলের গাছে’ ঝুলে থাকতে বলা হয়েছে। আধুনিক গবেষকদের মতে, কবিতাটি কেবল ছোটদের হাসানোর জন্য নয়, এর আড়ালে তৎকালীন ব্রিটিশ শাসিত ভারতীয় (বিশেষ করে বাঙালি বাবুদের) সমাজের একটি সূক্ষ্ম সমালোচনা রয়েছে।
